Serial Murderer

According to the FBI, a Serial Murderer is defined as: “The unlawful killing of two or more victims by the same offender(s), in separate events.” What the FBI tries to explain with this definition, is that for a person to be considered a serial killer, they must have a cooling off period in between these killings, but how do people get to this point? Are they born with certain biogenetical flaw? Or do these people get to this point because of their upbringing? This website, is going to discuss the origin of these serial killers and the analysis is behind these factors.

Serial Killers, can’t be pinned down as a certain “type of person”, which makes the FBI’s profilers jobs almost pointless for these people. They do however, share some traits that involve: Attention seeking, the lack of showing remorse or guilt, classic predatory behavior and the need to be in control at all times. These serial killer traits, have a direct correlation with psychopathy. Psychopathy, is a personality disorder that manifest many of the traits stated above to get what they please. Not all psychopaths turn to be killers, but all serial killers have psychopathic traits that make it even more difficult to pin point exactly a type. Serial killers are the most infamous type of criminals, thus causing an automatic fascination towards them. For years, doctors, psychologists, neuroscientists, criminologists, etc. have been studying these killers, trying to understand their brains, their actions and the “reasons” behind them. Today, we are the closest we have ever been to finally being able to understand these psychopaths, and maybe even put a stop to this worldwide problem. But still the question remains unanswered, what if humans are born to kill?
